Malang is an education city. There are a lot of education institutions which are established in that city. One of them is SDK and SMPK Sang Timur. It is located at Jl. Bandung no. 2 Penanggungan, Klojen, Malang. SDK and SMPK overshade on Karya Sang Timur foundation, Malang. Because of heterogen city, there are a lot of etnics, religions, and groups living in this city. One of them is Tionghoa etnic. Tionghoa people have been living in Malang before Independence of Indonesia and have had a lot of generations. Some of them study in SDK and SMPK Sang Timur.

SDK and SMPK Sang Timur is one of education institutions in Malang that has important role in the education world for Tionghoa generation that study there. They have important role in building the students' character. They also provide facilities as a part of element in education.
Based on the explanation above, the researcher conclude as follow: (1) How is the history of the establishment and the development of Sang Timur education institution in Malang? (2) How is the life of Tionghoa community on education institution Sang Timur Malang? (3) What are the characteristics of Education institution Sang Timur Malang as an education institution for Tionghoa community?

Based on the result of the study, the research is aimed as follow: (1) to describe the history of the establishment and the development of Sang Timur education institution in Malang are (2) to describe how the life of Tionghoa community on education institution Sang Timur Malang is (3) to describe What the characteristics of Education institution Sang Timur Malang as an education institution for Tionghoa community are.

This research used qualitative approach that explains aspect of education and social. In this study, the life of Tionghoa community around SDK and SMPK Sang Timur school where their children study is investigated. The data has been conducted in Karya Sang Timur Foundation, SDK Sang Timur and SMPK Sang Timur.

The result of the research shows that (1) the education institution Sang Timur exposes oneself for all etnics to study in this school including Tionghoa generation (2) The life of Tionghoa community in education institution, in this case the students of SDK and SMPK, runs as usual and and like the other students. The students coming from Tionghoa generation are also interested in some local subjects and extracurriculum like Tionghoa language and javanese art; (3) the characteristics of Education institution Sang Timur Malang as an education institution for Tionghoa community are that there is additional program in their teaching and learning. They are psicholgical guide, religiousness and academical guide that are given to the students by catholic nuns from Karya Sang Timur Foundation. Another characteristic is that they are given entrepreneurship soul, Tionghoa language and gamelan jawa are provided as local subject in that school.

Based on the research, it can be useful for the other researchers that have interest in this study to raise the same term so that they can do the research in different places because there are a lot of places that accept tge students coming from Tionghoa community like Cor Jesu school, Dempo school, Santo yusuf school, etc. sugestion for ex-students of Sang Timur is that they can play a role more, be more active to help SDK and SMPK Malang for the development that school.
