Reading is a very important skill for students. Students who like reading will get more knowledge than those who do not. Based on the need analysis that was conducted in the class X IIS of SMAN 1 Blitar, students prefer to read an entertaining book like comic rather than reading books provided by the school. Even in the lesson about narrative texts which is supposed to entertain students, students are not interested in the students’ perspective and students’ answer to the comprehension question were not satisfactory. This was due to teaching materials which were not attractive and students' low motivation in English reading activity. Developing a comic book was chosen to overcome student problem in reading the narrative texts.

This study adapted the research and development (R&D) model by Borg and Gall (1983). It was conducted in five stages, they are the research and information collecting, developing preliminary material, the expert validation, first revision, main field testing, second revision, producing the final product. The subject of this research was the students of class X IIS 1 of SMAN 1 Blitar. The instruments of this research were a questionnaire, interview guide, and reading comprehension test. The data taken was analyzed to know how well students’ performance when reading a narrative story in a comic form compare to the narrative story found in the student book.

The result of this research showed the development process of comic reached the aim of this research. The essential result of this research can be seen when the comic has been tried out to the students. The students enjoy reading the comic book that researcher has developed that was shown by the students give good score in opinionnaire about the comic book when the researcher tried the comic book in the class

Based on the result of this study, it was concluded that the researcher developed a comic book as supplementary material for narrative lessons to be attractive and also supposed to help students in comprehending the story. Students’ reaction toward the researcher comic book was positive. The teacher can use the comic book as teaching media in the class. For further researcher are suggested to develop a new comic for different grade and different English text type in the form of comic book also give after reading activity more interactive.
