Techniques in teaching English are the ways of presenting the language to the students. Techniques in teaching are needed to achieve the teaching-learning purposes, because teaching will be successful if the teacher implements the appropriate techniques in the class. Teaching speaking to young learners is different from teaching speaking to adult. Because young learners are different from adult in terms of natural abilities and characteristics, teachers should use appropriate techniques that are enjoyable and interesting.

This study in intended to describe techniques used by the teacher to teach speaking in the second grade (International Curriculum program Class) at international laboratory Primary School UM that is located on Jln Bogor 19 Malang east java.

The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The form of the data is the description of techniques that are used by the teacher to teach speaking. The data were collected by doing observation while the teacher was teaching speaking skills in the English class. Besides, the researcher also made an interview with the students. After that the researcher prepared the data. Then the researcher analyzed the data integrated using three stages. They were; (1) data display (2) conclusion drawing and (3) verification.

The result of the study shows that the teacher used two techniques to teach students speaking ability they are song and interview. The teaching and learning English will be interesting if the teaching and learning activities are enjoyable

Based on the result of the study there are suggestions for English teachers and future researchers. For English teachers, they should try to apply role play and used English as aclassroom language and for further researchers, they are suggested to find out the students’ perception about the techniques used by the teacher in teaching speaking in English class.
