Dengan bertambahnya kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan, literasi dianggap suatu hal yang penting dalam menyeimbangkan kemajuan teknologi dan informasi. Literasi adalah rangkaian kemampuan membaca, berpikir, dan menulis yang saling berkesinambungan antara satu dengan yang lainnya yang harus dimanfaatkan secara optimal untuk memperoleh pengetahuan dalam berbagai keperluan. Tingkat literasi adalah kemampuan seseorang dalam menggunakan rangkaian kemampuan membaca, berpikir, menulis dan memanfaatkannya dengan baik untuk belajar  sepanjang hayat baik di rumah, tempat kerja atau di masyarakat. Tingkat literasi perlu diketahui untuk membantu siswa dalam menghadapi tantangan global. Oleh karena itu, tingkat literasi berdasarkan gender perlu dilakukan agar pendidik mengetahui seberapa besar kemampuan literasi yang dimiliki oleh siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan untuk mempersiapkan diri dalam menghadapi kemajuan di era globalisasi.

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan beberapa hal, yaitu (1) mendeskripsikan perbedaan kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan perempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang pada kegiatan merangkum teks, (2) mendeskripsikan perbedaan kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan perempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang pada kegiatan membandingkan teks dan membahasakan tabel, (3) mendeskripsikan perbedaan kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan perempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang pada kegiatan memberikan solusi, (4) mendeskripsikan perbedaan kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan perempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang berdasarkan kegiatab membuat tampilan visual, dan (5) mendeskripsikan perbedaan tingkat literasi siswa laki-laki dan prempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang berdasarkan skor total.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa paparan skor siswa pada setiap kegiatan dan skor total siswa yang diperoleh berdasarkan tes kemampuan literasi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik tes. Kegiatan analisis data dimulai dari tahap pengumpulan data, pemberian skor, dan pengolahan data yang terkumpul dengan mencari skor rata-rata.

Berdasarkan paparan hasil penelitian, diperoleh lima simpulan hasil penelitian sebagai berikut. Pertama, tingkat kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang dalam mengerjakan tes literasi level rendah yang diukur dengan kegiatan merangkum termasuk dalam kategori baik.

Kedua, tingkat kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dalam mengerjakan tes membandingkan dua teks dan membahasakan tabel termasuk dalam kategori menengah ke bawah sedangkan kemampuan literasi siswa perempuan dalam mengerjakan tes membandingkan dua teks dan membahasakan tabel termasuk dalam kategori menengah ke atas.

Ketiga, tingkat kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dalam mengerjakan tes literasi level tinggi yang diukur dengan kegiatan memberikan solusi termasuk dalam kategori kurang sedangkan kemampuan literasi siswa perempuan termasuk dalam kategori menengah ke bawah.

Keempat, tidak terdapat perbedaan tingkatkemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan dalam mengerjakan tes literasi level mahir yang diukur dengan kegiatan membuat tampilan visual termasuk dalam kategori kurang.

Kelima, tingkat kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang berdasarkan skor total, yaitu  kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki berdasarkan skor total tes literasi termasuk dalam kategori menengah ke bawah sedangkan siswa perempuan termasuk dalam kategori menengah ke atas.

Berdasarkan simpulan hasil penelitian dapat dikemukakan beberapa saran untuk pendidik sebagai berikut. Pertama, dengan ada perbedaan tingkat kemampuan literasi antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan bahwa siswa perempuan lebih unggul dibandingkan siswa laki-laki, guru dapat memberikan perhatian lebih pada siswa laki-laki dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Dua,guru dapat terus memotivasi siswa perempuan untuk lebih meningkat kemampuan literasi yang dimiliki. Tiga, karena kemampuan memberikan solusi dan membuat tampilan visual masih rendah guru dapat meningkatkan kemampuan tersebut dengan memasukkan kegitan tersebut di sela-sela pembelajaran. Keempat, dengan adanya perbedaan tingkat kemampuan literasi anatara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan guru diharapkan membuat strategi dalam pola mengajar yang nantinya mampu menyamakan tingkat kemampuan literasi siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan.

With increasing advances in science, literacy is considered an important thing in balancing the advancement of technology and information. Literacy is a series of reading, thinking, and writing are mutually continuous with each other should be used optimally to acquire knowledge in a variety of purposes. The level of literacy is the ability to use a range of reading, thinking, writing and used it well for lifelong learning in the home, the workplace or in the community. The level of literacy needed to know to help students in the face of global challenges. Therefore, the level of literacy by gender needs to be done so that educators know how big the literacy skills possessed by male students and female students to prepare for the progress in the era of globalization.

This research was conducted with the aim to describe a few things, namely (1) describe the difference the literacy skills of students male and female class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang on the activities of summarizing a text, (2) describe the differences in the literacy skills of students male and female class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang on activities comparing texts and paraphrases table, (3) describe differences in the literacy skills of students male and female class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang on activities provide a solution, (4) describe the differences in the literacy skills of students male and female class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang based kegiatab make visual displays, and (5) describe the differences in the literacy rate of male students and prempuan class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang based on total score.

This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive research design. The research data in the form of exposure to scores of students in each activity and total scores obtained by students literacy skills test. Data was collected using a test technique. Activity data analysis starts from the stage of data collection, scoring, and processing data collected by finding the average score.

Based on exposure to research, there are summaries of some aspects of literacy tests. First, differences in the level of literacy of students male and female students of class VII SMP Negeri Malang on text summarizes the activities there is no difference. Boys and girls alike are in either category. The average obtained by the male students, which is 13.9 of the total score 16. Percentage of male student achievement by 86%. While the average obtained by female students, ie 14.9 total score of 16. The percentage of female students achievement by 93%.

Second, differences in the level of students' literacy skills of men and women in activities comparing texts and paraphrases the table, that male students are included in the category of lower middle and female students included in the category of upper middle. The average obtained by male students, namely Total score of 11.33 out of 23. The percentage of male student achievement by 49%. The averages obtained by female students, which is 16 out of a total score of 23. The percentage of female students achievement by 69%.

Third, differences in the level of students' literacy skills of men and women on the activities of providing solutions, the boys included in the poor category and the literacy skills of female students on the activities of providing solutions, included in the category of lower middle. The average obtained by the male students, which is 8.37. Percentage of male student achievement by 36%. The average obtained by female students, the total score of 11.82 out of 23. The percentage of female students achievement by 51%.

Fourth, differences in levels of ability lietrasi boys and girls in activities create visual appearance there is no difference. Boys and girls included in the poor category. The average obtained by the male students, the total score of 3.87 out of 15. The percentage of male students pencapian by 25%. The average obtained by female students, the total score of 4.87 out of 15. The percentage of female students achievement by 32%.

Fifth, the literacy rate is based on total scores obtained by students men and women included in the intermediate category. Male students of class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang included in the middle and lower levels of literacy. It is seen from the average score obtained by male students in working on literacy tests, namely a total score of 47.78 out of 100. For the percentage of male students who fall into the middle category by 50% and were categorized as low as 30% , While female students of class VII SMP Negeri 4 Malang included in the middle to upper levels of literacy. It is seen from the mean score obtained by female students in working on literacy tests, namely a total score of 61.27 out of 100. For the percentage of female students in the category of medium as much as 56.67% and were categorized as high as 33.33%.

 

Based on the research conclusions can be put forward some suggestions for educators as follows. First, with no difference in the level of literacy among boys and girls that girls are superior to boys, teachers can give more attention the male students in learning activities. Two, teachers can continue to motivate female students to further increase the literacy skills possessed. Three, because of the ability to provide solutions and create a visual display is still low teacher can increase the ability to incorporate the activity on the sidelines of learning. Fourth, with the differences in the level of literacy anatara male students and female teachers are expected to make strategies in teaching pattern that will be able to equalize the level of literacy of students male and female students.
