ABSTRACT

Indarwati, Siska. 2013. The Effect of Modeling Strategy about Emceeing Ability of 01 Junior High School Students Gondanglegi. Thesis, Language Study Program, University of Malang Nergeri, Supervisor: (1) Dr. Endah Tri Priyatni, M. Pd, (2) Dewi Pusposari, S. Pd, M.Pd.

Keywords: effects, modeling, speaking learning, emceeing.

Emceeing is one of difficult speaking skills, not everyone is able to emceeing nicely. Therefore, it needs appropriate strategy in the learning process. One of the strategies that can be used in a emceeing learning is modeling strategy, hope that students are able to imitate and adapt the procedure of emceeing from examples or models shown.

For reached the purpose of emceeing learning in the eighth grade students of SMP 01 Gondanglegi, then need for efforts to improve the student ability in aspects of the opening event, presenting the core event, close or ending the event. The purpose of this study was to determine how the effect of using modeling strategy on the ability to open the event, presenting the core event, and close the show.

This study is a quasi-experimental study. Design research is the subject of mounting design through pre-test and post-test control group. The research was conducted at SMP 01 Gondanglegi academic year 2012/2013. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMP 01 Gondanglegi semester academic year 2012/2013. Whereas sample using simple random sampling. The data in this study consists of three data, which are (1) pre-test and post-test score of ability opened the event experiment class and the control class, (2) pre-test and post-test score of ability to present the core event experiment class and the control class, (3) pre-test and post-test score of the ability to close evens experimental class and the control class. Analysis of the data in this study using the T-test.

From the results of research on was found that the hypothesis test for the ability of opening event experiment class and the control class showed tcount 3.453> 2.016 ttable. Also obtained an average score of posttest experiment class

(82.95) is higher than the control class (66.30). Thereby, it can be concluded that the modeling strategy effect on student performance in the aspects of the opening event.

Ability to presenting core event of experiment class and control class indicate the value of statistical tests (t) of 2,187 is greater than 2,016 ttable. Also obtained an average score of posttest experiment class (56.81) is higher than the control class (44.56). Thereby, can be concluded that the modeling strategy effect on student performance in the aspects of presenting core event. The value of statistical tests (t) the ability to presenting core event of experiment class and control class greater than 2,280 ttable 2,016. Also obtained an average score of posttest experiment class (78.40) is higher than the control class (66.30). Thereby, can be concluded that the modeling strategy effect on student performance in the aspects of presenting core event.

From the discussion results can be concluded that there are significant differences of the results between the pretest and posttest perfomancy experiment class students because the experiment class students have been observing and adapting models has been shown so that the post-test results indicate excellent improvement. In the control class is not seemed the difference between pre-test and post-test, because the control class only get theories about emceeing without models of emceeing perfomances. Control class students do not have a picture of the good examples of emceeing in real practice. Thereby, can be concluded that the modeling strategy featuring models perfomancy of emceeing effect on student performance related to the these aspects of: (1) aspects of opening event, (2) present core event, and (3) aspects of closing event.

The result discussion of every aspects described as follows, (1) aspects of opening event control class still indicate the results less than the maximum, in contrast with experiment class who have observed examples of modeling, perfomancy of opening event the experiment class indicate very good results. (2) apects of presenting core event of the control class still indicate the results less than the maximum, in contrast with experiment class who have observed examples of modeling, presenting core event experiment class indicate very good results. Ability students in both class control and experiment class in presenting core events have one thing in common, namely in terms of varying language abilities. Both groups were equally likely to use the Indonesian language more easily understood by the audience. (3) aspects of closing event the control class still indicate the results less than the maximum, in contrast with experiment class who have observed examples of modeling, perfomance of closing event the experiment class indicate very good results.

For Indonesian teachers, results of this research can be used as input to add to the knowledge of teachers in choosing of learning strategies and to other researchers, results this research can be used as input to conduct research related to the use of modeling strategies in emceeing skills.
