This research on reading skill learning material in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book (Buku Sekolah Elektronik/BSE) for VIII Graders aims to describe the content of its material based on its conformity with Basic Competence standard in the curriculum as well as its accuracy. Besides, this research is directed to describe the language use in the reading skill learning material from its communicativeness side and language use which meets the coherence and cohesive of thinking plot.

This research employs quantitative approach and uses descriptive research. The data of this research include the score of reading skill material content in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders issued by National Education Department (Depdiknas) which can be downloaded from Depdiknas’s website on http://bse.depdiknas.go.id. The applied research instrument is scoring standard guide as the base in defining the score of the reading skill learning material in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders as well as the language use in reading skill material of the Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book. The data collection is prepared by giving the score on material content and language use based on the scoring standard guide. The data analysis is conducted by calculating the cumulative score from the scoring result data that have been clustered based on the basic competence and instrument point.

The overall score calculation on each aspect is as follow. In the term of material extensiveness, the material categorized as extensive is 40.00%, and less-extensive is 50.00%; while narrow material is 10%. In general, the reading skill material content extensiveness in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders can be categorized as quite good (76.67). In term of depth of the material, the material description categorized as sufficient is 20.00%, less-sufficient description is 70.00%, and the insufficient description is 10.00%. In general, the reading skill material content depth in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders is classifiable as quite good (70.00%).  From the perspective of procedure accuracy, the procedure description which is classified as an accurate procedure is 60.00%; while the not-accurate procedure classification is 40.00%. In general, the procedure accuracy of the reading skill material content in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders can be categorized as quite good (80.00%). From the accuracy of example/illustration, the accurate example/illustration description is 90.00%; while the inaccurate is 10.00%. In general, the accuracy of reading skill material example/illustration in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders is categorized as quite good (90.00%).

From the message readability, the language use fulfilling the message readability criteria is 80.00%; while those which does not meet the criteria is 20.00%. In general, message readability of reading skill material in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders can be categorized as quite-good (90.00%). From the language rule exactness, the language use meeting the criteria of language rule exactness is 70.00%, while the language use which does not fulfill the criteria is 30.00%. In general, the exactness on language rule of reading skill material in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders can be classified as quite-good (85.00%). In term of coherence and cohesiveness among paragraphs, the language use that meets the coherence and cohesiveness criteria among paragraphs is 85.00% while those who does not meet the criteria is 15.00%. In general, the coherence and cohesiveness among paragraph of the reading skill material in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders can be categorized as quite good (93.33%). From the coherence and cohesiveness among sentences, the overall language use on reading skill material in Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders have met the criteria of coherence and cohesiveness among sentences, so that it is categorized as good (100%).

Based on this research, the proposed suggestions from the researcher are as follow: (1) teacher in Bahasa Indonesia subject can use Bahasa Indonesia Electronic School Book for VII Graders as the learning media, particularly in reading subject. (2) The researcher needs to improve the quality of the text book to obtain better outcome as it is used in learning. (3) Further researcher should run a research with different focus, such as other language skill subject (listening, speaking, and writing), literature, or other program.
