Argumentative writing course is the last writing course presented in the 6th semester in the English Department, Faculty of Letters, State University of Malang. Due to its complexity, the teaching and learning of the argumentative writing course has been a challenging task for both the students and the lecturers. The teaching of writing that focuses more on the process has been believed to be more effective than the product-oriented teaching and learning. Unfortunately, this approach takes longer time to apply and demands long processes of teaching and learning consisting of five stages; planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. The relatively lengthy process can be shortened by the use of technology in form of online learning platform that enables the blending of offline and online teaching and learning activities. However, there was not yet any available online learning platform provided by the university that provides students with blended learning media.

This study aimed to develop an online learning platform in the form of a website for argumentative writing course. The website enables the teaching and learning process to be conducted offline and online. The website enhances the offline learning in the class by allowing students to practice their writing online yet still under the lecturers’ guidance.The study adapted the Research and Development design proposed by Borg and Gall (1983). The study was conducted through some steps: needs assessment, product development, expert validation and tryout. Interviews were conducted with the students, lecturers of argumentative writing course, Head of the English Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Letters to see the real needs in the field. Experts on writing, teaching media and IT were involved in this study to validate the product. Product tryout was administered to see the usability of the website. Revisions were made based on the feedbacks that were obtained from the validation and tryout stage.

The result of this study shows that the website namely www.writingmate.net is appropriate to use as online media in teaching and learning argumentative writing. This study is expected to give practical alternatives for the improvement of the teaching and learning activity. This study also benefits the students, lecturers and the English Department in providing a model of integration of ICT into language teaching and learning activities.

Pembelajaranonlinebelumtersedia di perguruantinggi.

Penelitianinibertujuanuntukmengembangkanplatformpembelajaranonlineberbasiswebsiteuntukmatakuliahmenulisargumentatif. Websiteinimemungkinkan proses belajar-mengajarsecaraonlinetanpaterbataswaktudantempat. Selainmemfasilitasilangkah-langkahdalampembelajaranmenulisberbasis proses secarasecaraonline, websiteinijugamemilikifiturpendukunglainnya yang dapatmembantupembelajaranmenjadilebihefektifdanefisien.PenelitianinimenggunakanmetodeResearch and Development yang dikembangkanoleh Borg dan Gall (1983). Wawancaradilakukanpadamahasiswa, dosenpengampumatakuliahmenulisargumentatif, KepalaJurusandanDekanFakultasSastrauntukmelihatkebutuhan di lapangan.Ahlipenulisan, ahli media pembelajaran, danahli IT dilibatkandalampenelitianiniuntukmemvalidasiproduk.

Hasildaripenelitianinimenunjukkanbahwawebsitedenganalamatwww.writingmate.netsesuaiuntukdigunakansebagai media online dalam proses belajar-mengajarmenulisargumentatif.Penelitianinidiharapkanmemberikanalternatif yang praktisuntukmeningkatkanaktifitasbelajar-mengajar.Penelitianinijugamemberikankeuntunganbagimahasiswa, dosenpengampu, danJurusanBahasaInggrisdalammenyediakanfasilitasberbasisteknologi yang canggihdalam proses belajar-mengajar.
