Effect of Extended L2 Glossed Short Stories on English Department Students’ Reading Comprehension and Reading Motivation

Abstrak


Abstract: This study aims to investigate the effect of extended L2 glossed short stories on English department students’ reading comprehension and their motivation in reading. This study employs quasi experimental design. The population in this study were the fourth semester English department students. The sample were students in two classes of Extensive Reading course. The instruments employed in this study were reading tests and a questionnaire. The results show that extended L2 glossed short stories do not significantly either affect students’ reading comprehension or their motivation in reading.

Abstrak:Penelitianinibertujuanuntukmenginvestigasiefek “extended L2 glossed short stories” terhadapkemampuandanmotivasimahasiswaBahasaInggrisdalammembaca. Penelitianinimenggunakandesain “quasi experimental”. PopulasidalampenelitianiniadalahmahasiswaJurusanBahasaInggris semester 4. Sampeldalampenelitianiniadalahmahasiswadariduakelas “Extensive Reading”. Instrumen yang digunakandalampenelitianiniadalahtesmembacadankuesioner. Hasilpenelitianinimenunjukkanbahwa “extended L2 glossed short stories”tidakberpengaruhsecarasignifikanterhadapkemampuandanmotivasisiswadalammembaca.
