Beliefs of Formal and Non-Formal Teachers towards Strategies in Teaching the Argumentative Writing

Abstrak


Abstract: This study was aimed to investigate beliefs of formal and non-formal English teachers how their classroom practices reflected their beliefs and factors affected their beliefs towards strategies in teaching the argumentative writing. One formal English teacher and two –formal English teachers were involved in multiple interviews to examine their beliefs in teaching the argumentative writing. There were seventeen beliefs of formal and non-formal teachers found in this study and some discrepencies happened between teachers’ beliefs and their classroom practices because of some factors which were categorized as schooling background, contextual factors, professional coursework and classroom practice. Based on the result of the study, it is suggested that teachers (subjects of the study and general teacher) need to always evaluate their teaching by doing the reflection as their professional developments.Last, it is suggested for further researchers to do the longitudinal study related to link between belief and the classroom practice in order to get more data which can contribute more

Abstrack : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keyakinan guru bahasa Inggris formal dan non formal bagaimana praktik kelas mereka tercermin keyakinan mereka dan faktor-faktor mempengaruhi keyakinan mereka terhadap strategi dalam mengajar menulis argumentatif. Salah satu guru bahasa Inggris formal dan dua guru bahasa Inggris -formal terlibat dalam beberapa wawancara untuk menguji keyakinan mereka dalam mengajar menulis argumentatif. Ada tujuh belas keyakinan guru formal dan non-formal yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini dan beberapa discrepencies terjadi antara keyakinan guru dan praktek kelas mereka karena beberapa faktor yang dikategorikan sebagai latar belakang pendidikan, faktor kontekstual, kursus profesional dan praktek kelas. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disarankan agar guru (subyek studi dan guru umum) perlu selalu mengevaluasi pengajaran mereka dengan melakukan refleksi sebagai developments.Last profesional mereka, disarankan untuk peneliti selanjutnya untuk melakukan penelitian longitudinal terkait dengan menghubungkan antara kepercayaan dan praktek kelas untuk mendapatkan lebih banyak data yang dapat memberikan kontribusi lebih
