The result of reseacher’s preliminary observation in grade V SDN 1 Gesikan Tulungagung on learning free poetry showed that (1) teacher taughtfree writing poetry conventionally and class-centered, (2) teacher asked students to make a free poetry without supporting source/media, (4) students determined the diction in free poetry difficultly, (5) student could not show the correct figure of speech in free poetry, and (6) the result of student skill writing free poetryshowedunder average of KKM and only 39% of students have completed. This research aims to describe the application and improvement of students' free poetry writing skills through Resource Based Learning model.

This researchusing a qualitative approach typely Class Action Research. This researchheld in 2 cycles which each cycle has 4 stages. Those are (1) planning (2) implementation (3) observation and (4) reflection. Data collection was done by using observation, documentation, interview, field note, and test. Data analysis techniques done by using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion.

The results showed that the implementation of Resource Based Learning model implemented by teacheron first cycle reached 87,5% (good category) and increased on cycle II to 97,3% (very good category), student activity on first cycle reached 83% (good category) and increased on cycle II to 90% (very good category). There is an increase in free poetry writing skills. The average score of students free poetry writing skills on pre-action is 64 with 36% classical categorization (very less category), increased on cycle I with average score 68,2 and classical completely is 41% (very less category) and on cycle II the average value reached 79,5 with 82% classical clarity (good).

The research result concluded that the implementation of Resource Based Learning model in free poetry material has been implemented by teachers and students very well and can improve the skills of writing poetry free of grade V SDN Gesikan 1 Tulungagung. For that case, researcherhopethat teacher can apply Resource Based Learning model to create an active and fun learning in order to improve student learning outcomes.
