Science is a knowledge which explains about nature systematically. This goes with KTSP (Depdiknas, 2006) that “IPA is related with finding the way of nature systematically so that it is not only about the mastery of including facts, concept, or the principle but also it is about inventory”. Based on the result of observation which had been done during the teaching and process go, it was seen that the implementation of IPA learning had not used yet the model which could improve students’ activity. The teaching and learning process was focused on the teacher. this could be shown from the result study of students which was low, while from the result of observation, it could be seen that the students were not active when the teaching and learning process of IPA. Based on that fact, it is needed the solution alternative. One of the solutions proposed was group investigation learning model. Group investigation was a kind of teaching and learning by involving the students since the planning or beginning, either in choosing the topic or the way to learn through investigation

This study was conducted to describe the implementation of group investigation model, students’ activity when the teaching and learning used group investigation model, the students’ result study used group investigation and students’ responses used group investigation model and teachers’ response after teaching using group investigation model.

This study used class action research. Data analysis was done descriptively either qualitative or quantitative. Generally, data analysis was calculated through the steps: showing the data, reduce the data, chategorize tha data, and interpretation or give meaning and conclude the result of analysis. Data analysis which was descriptive quantitative was done by using percentage and average analysis. Quantitative was measured based on result study of observation through observation rubric, assignment of students worksheets and test result. Based on the result of analysis, there were five conclusions as follows. First, group investigation model was started from grouping, planning the material which will be discussed, implement investigation, prepare final project, present the result of final project and evaluation.

Second, group investigation model could improve students’ result of study. It could be seen from the average score of students in cycle I that was 65.8 while in cycle II that was 73.9.

Third, students’ activity in the teaching and learning process improved. It was caused by group investigation model gave an opportunity to the students to learn in group to investigate the information which was gained from the book.

Forth, based on the result of students’ interview, group investigation model was so fun. That was caused the students were given free in study, group, to investigate the information which was obtain from the book.

Fifth, based on teachers’ interview, group investigation model could improve the activity and students’ result study. It was caused the teaching and learning conducted at that time was not be able to improve students’ activity.
