Pembelajaran yang dilakukan di kelas masih didominasi oleh peran guru dan kurang melibatkan siswa secara aktif selama proses pembelajaran sehingga kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa rendah. Faktor yang mempengaruhi rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam berpikir kritis yaitu guru masih menggunakan metode konvensional. Hal tersebut membuat siswa merasa bosan, sehingga perlu menggunakan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siwa kelas XI IPS SMAN 1 Panarukan. Penelitian ini termasuk jenis penelitian eksperimen semu (Quasi Experiment) dengan menggunakan analisa statistik kuantitatif. Penelitian ini mengambil rancangan penelitian tipe Nonequivalent Control Group. Subjek penelitian  ini meliputi keseluruhan siswa kelas XI IPS SMAN 1Panarukan yang terdiri dari 2 kelas, yaitu kelas XI IPS 1 sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas XI IPS 2 sebagai kelas eksperimenyang masing-masing berjumlah 31 siswa. Teknik analisis yang digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis yaitu menggunakan Independent Sampel t-Test dengan bantuan program SPSS 16.0 for Windows.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siwa. Hasil analisis Independent Sampel t-Test diperoleh nilai sig. sebesar 0,000. Nilai Gainscore kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas eksperimen adalah 17,10 lebih tinggi dari pada kelas kontrol sebesar 12,74. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa.

Bertitik tolak dari penelitian ini, beberapa saran yang diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat antara lain: (1) guru dapat menerapkan model pembelajaran PBL sebagai salah satu variasi model dalam kegiatan pembelajran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir siswa, (2) pada sat guru mencari permasalahan harus disertai bukti-bukti yang relevan agar siswa lebih mudah dalam menentukan solusi permasalahan, (3) bagi peneliti selanjutnya yang berminat melakukan penelitian jenis ini, ada baiknya mempersiapkan RPP dengan baik, terutama alokasi waktu agar penerapan model pembelajaran PBL dapat terlaksana dengan baik, (4) memberikan lebih banyak pilihan permasalahan yang ada di lingkungan sekitar.

Learning which is implement in the class is still dominated by teacher and less involved students actively for learning proccess therefore the students’ critical thinking ability is low. Factor that influences of students’ critical thinking ability is teacher is using conventional. It makes students feel bored, so that teacher needs to use PBL (Problem Based Learning) method.

This study aimed to determine the effect of learning model of Problem Based toward Critical Thinking Ability for students of XI IPS class SMAN 1 Panarukan. This research was quasi-experimental research (Quasi Experiment) by using quantitative statistical analysis. This study took the research design type Nonequivalent Control Group. The subjects of this study included overall students of XI IPS class SMAN 1Panarukan which consists of two classes, namely XI IPS 1 class was as the control class and XI IPS 2 class was as experiment which was each total 31 students. The analysis technique was used to test the hypothesis that used Independent samples t-test by SPSS 16.0 for Windows.

The results showed that the application of Problem Based Learning model affected the ability of students’ critical thinking. The results of analysis of the Independent Sample t-Test obtained sig. 0,000. Gainscore critical thinking ability experiment students class was 17.10 higher than the control class was 12.74. It could be concluded that the application of Problem Based Learning modelaffectedtoward students' critical thinking ability.

Based on the present study, some suggestions were expected to provide benefits such as: (1) the teacher can apply PBL model as a model variation in learning activity to enhance students' thinking ability, (2) when teachers find out the problems should be accompanied by relevant proof that the students are easier in determining solutionin problems, (3) for future researcher who is interested in doing this kind of research, it helps to prepare lesson plans well, especially in the allocation of time for application of PBL model canbe run well, (4) providing more of  many selection problems that exist in the environment.
