Teaching learning an activity that aims to the learning process of an individual or group can be conducted well. For geography teaching learning, good strategy, multiple approaches, methods, and various media are needed so that students’ learning achievement can be well. Based on the early observation, the geography teaching at SMA Negeri (State Senior High School) 1 Paiton has a Minimum Acoomplishment Criteria (KKM) of at least 70. Based on interviews with geography teachers and observations, it was known that the classical acceptance of Geography in Class XI IPS-3 had not yet reached the (KKM). From the set KKM, 13 students had achieved the accomplishment score ≥ 75 and 23 students had not achieved the accomplishment score ≥ 75 in the first daily test. Thus, there was no student of class XI IPS-3 who accomplished the minimum score. The average score of the students of class XI IPS-3 was 68,72.

This research aimed to improve students’ learning achievement. Toachieve that goal, this research was designed using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) that was conducted in April-May 2011. The subject of this research was the students of class XI IPS-3 that consisted of 36 students. This research was conducted in two cycles, the data collection technique was test. The cobducted action was the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative teaching learning model.

The results of the research showed that students’ learning achievement was improving from the pre-action to cycle 1 and then to cycle 2. The students’ average score in pre action was 68,72, in cycle 1, it improved to 74,88 and incycle 2 improved to 81,80. The learning accomplishment was also improving from 36% in pre action to 68,57% in cycle 1 and finally improved to 91,434% in cycle 2.

Based on those results, the suggestions are as follows: (1) geography teachers should apply the Teams Games Tournament cooperative teaching learning model to improve students’ learning achievement. (2) further researchers should conduct similar research in order to improve the Teams GamesTournament cooperative teaching learning model with different subjects.
