Key words: teaching strategy, reading, slow learners.The current research at aimed to reveal is the teacher’s strategies in teaching reading comprehension for slow learners and the teacher’s reasons for using the all strategy in teaching reading comprehension for slow learners at SMPLB Dr. Idayu 2 Malang.

The research design is descriptive qualitative. The research subject is an English teacher of SMPLB Dr. Idayu 2 Malang. The researcher selects one class  consisting four students particularly the eighth grade where the slow learners are taught. This research employs observation checklist, field notes, video recorder, and interview guide. Data are collected through observation with the use of observation. Field notes are used to visualize what is observed and experienced during the data collection. Video recorder is used to record the teacher’s strategies in the reading class. Interview is conducted to obtain the reasons of using most dominant strategy used by the teacher in teaching reading comprehension for the slow learners.The findings of this research show that in pre activities the teacher used three strategies proposed by Nation and Narbury (2005), namely, questioning strategy, the visualizing strategy and code switching strategy. In whilst activities,  there were three strategies used by the teacher, such as vocabulary and language development strategy, reading aloud strategy and visualizing strategy.From the all strategies, there were some reasons why teacher used the strategies. First, it can increase the students’ knowledge, memory and skill in teaching reading comprehension. It has been proven successful in improving the reading comprehension skill of the students in academic learning.Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that the English teacher start to teach reading with a real life material and gives more evaluation to enrich the students’ knowledge and increase their retention in reading comprehension.Finally, for further researches who are interested in conducting the research on teacher’s strategy in teaching reading comprehension, they are suggested to do the observation more than three times in order to get the more strategies used by the teacher.
